Honest Review - South Park: The End of Obesity

I’ve seen fewer than 10 episodes of South Park in my life—probably fewer than 5. However, while discussing our experiences with patient advocacy and healthcare navigation, a colleague recommended a particular episode. It was a hoot!

My expectations were low because I wasn’t a fan of their humor back in college, but the satire in this episode was spot on. Unfortunately, it was also a bit too accurate. Cartman, one of the main characters known for his obesity, needs a medication that his insurance refuses to cover. Sound familiar? What follows is 50 minutes of hilarious commentary on Big Sugar, navigating the healthcare system, and the town moms’ (and one dad’s) obsession with Ozempic.

I’ve even started sharing this episode with others who I think might enjoy it. For those of us deeply entrenched in the absurdity of the American healthcare system, this episode provides a much-needed outlet for laughing at our frustrations.
