Wednesday Wellness Check-in: Weight Loss
What a difference a year makes! The photo on the left is from Aug 2023, the right from Sept 2024. I have lost over 40 lbs. You can, too—with the right system, support, and accountability.
A doctor (a very rude one) once asked if I’d always struggled with my weight. I thought, “No, because I’ve never battled it.” LOL The joys of having a neurodivergent brain. Even at my heaviest, 270 lbs., weight wasn’t my main concern - dealing with fatigue and brain fog were.
For those who’ve known me since high school, my weight has fluctuated from 140 lbs. in my teens to a stable 240 lbs. in my thirties. Looking back, I can clearly see how neurodivergent burnout affected my ability to manage diet and exercise.
Now, equipped with the tools to reduce and prevent burnout, I’ve used my knowledge of nutrition to lose and maintain a healthy weight. How? Portion control. I didn’t increase activity or change what I ate.
In January 2024, I weighed 247 lbs. I applied techniques I’ve learned as a health coach: making lunch my biggest meal, breakfast second, and dinner the smallest. I cut snacking by ensuring I was 80% full at meals and included fats to boost satiety.
By May 2024, I hit 205 lbs. and have maintained it since. Along with light cardio and stretching, I have added walking, and plan to begin strength training by November.
This system—one I use with clients—gave me clear steps and accountability. Having a coach helped me stay consistent, especially when I felt stuck. The key was setting a SMART goal and sticking with it.
